A divorce document review helps distinguish essential civil-status records from evidence needed for a particular dispute. International clients should also consider translations, any required formalities for foreign records and the information needed to notify the other spouse properly.
Build the file around the requests
A divorce file should demonstrate the facts relevant to the relief requested. Start by separating the evidence of marriage and identity from records concerning children, property or debt. This makes it easier to identify missing documents and explain why each record matters.
For an agreed divorce, the file should reflect both spouses' voluntary decision and their arrangements for the family consequences. For a unilateral case, it should also set out the applicable grounds and the evidence of marital breakdown. The same document checklist will not be suitable for every family.

Marriage and civil-status documents
Check that names, dates and other identifying information are consistent across the marriage record, passports and related certificates. If the marriage was registered abroad, establish how the record can be used in Vietnam and whether any civil-status step needs to be addressed. Registration of an overseas event and a court's divorce jurisdiction are different questions.
Where an original is unavailable, identify the issuing authority and the possibility of obtaining a lawful extract or replacement. An explanation should be prepared instead of silently omitting an important record or assuming that an informal copy will be accepted.
Records for children and financial matters

Children's birth records help establish the family relationship. A disputed parenting request may also require evidence of daily care, schooling, health needs, stable accommodation and the proposed support arrangements. Income is relevant but does not alone decide custody.
For financial claims, organise acquisition records, gift or inheritance evidence, ownership certificates, loan documents and any property agreement. Identify what is agreed, what is contested and whether third-party interests are involved. A name on a certificate does not answer every marital-property question.
Review before submission
Check jurisdiction, the other spouse's current location and the information needed for lawful notice. Foreign records need appropriate authenticity and translation checks, including any treaty route or exemption applicable to the document. The court may request clarification or additional evidence after filing.
A lawyer can help connect the records with the requested orders and explain the next steps. Document preparation supports the procedure; it does not replace a spouse's required personal participation or predetermine the court's decision.
